Established in 1983, Pro Elite Hockey has conducted hockey schools and
clinics in the United States, Canada and Russia. Founder Joe Lyons, Sr.
relocated to Naples earlier this year, bringing more than 40 years national and
international hockey experience including 17 years as a scout for the NHL’s
Boston Bruins.
“Training youth, high school and college students is the future of
hockey,” explains Coach Lyons, who has coached and trained more than 100
professional hockey players, with 12 players signing directly to the National
Hockey League (NHL) from Pro Elite Hockey camps. “If you want to compete with
the best, you need to train with the best,” he believes.
Coach Lyons has assembled a stellar coaching team that includes
three-time National Roller Hockey Champion Tyler Landers of Team USA and
three-time national Roller Hockey Champion Coach Doug Landers.
“One can never stop learning from good
coaching at any stage of your game,” reports Coach Lyons. “All players will
benefit from our curriculum that focuses on game situation drills/skills. All
our drills have a conditioning, agility, skill and battle element to it. Our
drills are fun and challenging teaching kids to adapt to the ever-changing game
of hockey,” he adds.
Most importantly, Pro Elite Hockey camps have a 5:1 ratio of players to
qualified coaches so the players get the best drills taught by the best
instructors. Coach Lyons’s program places a large focus on a facet of the game
that is so integral - mental conditioning/confidence. “Hockey is a game of
mistakes - those who learn to rebound quickly from their mistakes will become
the great hockey players,” he reasons. Lyons calls it called mental toughness.
“Bad coaching, unfair team selection, lack of practice time, and hockey
politics can crush spirit. We have all been there,” he notes.
“We want kids leaving our camps confident in
their abilities on and off the rink,” he declares.
